Chendo Pérez is a professional fine art photographer specializing in black-and-white imagery. He was born in 1958 in Havana, Cuba. He lived in Spain and, since 1964, in New York City, where he studied photography. In 1977 he began practicing his techniques by creating city essays and assisting commercial photographers. From 1978 to 1980, he lived in the Virgin Islands, where he studied black-and-white fine art photography and advanced darkroom techniques.
Chendo's work is characterized by its profound emotional depth and technical excellence. He has a talent for blending light and shadow to create dramatic, almost ethereal images. His subjects range from hauntingly beautiful landscapes to intimate portraits, each telling a unique story. Chendo's thematic focus often explores the interplay between humanity and nature, the passage of time, and the transient beauty of life.
Over the years, Chendo Pérez has built an impressive portfolio, showcasing his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His photographs have been featured in prestigious galleries and museums, earning him a reputation as a prominent figure in fine art photography. His pieces are part of private and public collections, cementing his status as a sought-after artist in the contemporary art world.
Chendo believes that photography is not just about capturing a moment but about evoking a feeling and sparking a connection. His work reflects a deep respect for the world around him and a desire to communicate complex emotions through visual storytelling. He draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including classical art, literature, and his personal experiences.
In 2004, Chendo Pérez founded Fotomission, a non-profit organization dedicated to the teaching and promotion of photography, as well as the production of artistic and documentary exhibitions, publications, and online presentations of significant and socially conscious efforts. Among Fotomission's projects, one of his greatest satisfactions is the exhibition "The Waiting," where 150 children from the Miami-Dade County adoption system in Florida were photographed. More than 40 children were adopted as a direct result of the exhibition. In San Juan, he developed a photography program for pediatric cancer patients, Fotomission Kids.
Chendo will work with you to create impactful commissions of fine art single prints or editions for individual, commercial, and corporate use.
